WEST TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — During a time where many school districts across the state and even the country have noted a shortage in available teachers, one local school celebrated future teachers with a special event.
On Wednesday, folks at West Vigo High School celebrated those future teachers with an event called “Educators Rising: Future Teacher National Signing Day.”
Educators Rising is a movement dedicated to cultivating the next generation of teachers and educators.
The event celebrates high school seniors who have made a commitment to pursue education degrees. Four students from West Vigo participated in the signing.
Education Professions Instructor Dianne Burpo said she worked with each of the students.
“These four seniors, I’ve worked with them all year,” Burpo said. “I’ve seen them with children and they are all very gifted.”
