TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The first guests will check into the Terre Haute Casino Resort hotel on Wednesday, but ahead of the grand opening, WTWO got an exclusive sneak peek of some of the amenities.
Throughout the tour, the word “luxury” was used often to describe the experience for hotel guests and other patrons; staff said it’s a continuation of the atmosphere at the casino, which opened in April.
“This is the only luxury property in Terre Haute,” Hotel Manager Seleste Miller said. “It’s exciting for the whole entire community.”
Miller said the hotel’s 122 rooms all offer special amenities and nods to the city of Terre Haute itself.
“All of the pictures have been basically taken of Terre Haute’s history,” Miller said. “So there’s something to see when you enter the rooms.”
The hotel offers king rooms, double queen rooms, corner king suites and center king suites.
As a Terre Haute native, Miller said the chance to work with Churchill Downs and open this hotel is a source of pride.
“This has been something that’s been kind of touching my heart,” Miller said. “My family grew up here, I grew up here, and to my knowledge, I’m the first African-American hotel manager that has opened a hotel and managed a hotel in Terre Haute; it’s a trailblazer opportunity for me and for my family.”
Miller said her hope is that this property will help grow her hometown, and that not just visitors from out of town, but also locals come check out the amenitites.
“You have to come take a staycation,” Miller said, smiling. “It’s beautiful, it’s luxury; I mean, you have to take that opportunity.”
One of the highly anticipated spots at the property is the Altitude Bar & Lounge on the 10th floor of the building.
“It’s a rooftop bar,” Miller said. “We have it in so many different cities, people look for it; we’ve got a great view off of the patio, so lots of beautiful things.”
The Altitude Bar & Lounge, along with the hotel lobby bar and the Queen’s Beans coffee shop are all open to members of the general public who are 21 and older.
The hotel’s grand opening to the public is set for Wednesday, May 15 at 4 p.m.
The pool at the hotel will open at a later date.
