WASHINGTON, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A junior high student is facing criminal charges after threats to a local school were posted online, school officials said Wednesday.
Washington Community Schools Communications Coordinator Tori Peterson said the incident happened on Monday. Administrators were notified of a threat posted to social media and contacted a school resource officer.
Peterson said the investigation by the SRO revealed that there was no immediate danger to students and staff.
According to the Washington Police Department, the post was made by a juvenile who was identified as a student at Washington Junior High School. Police said the student was “detained without incident.”
“We appreciate Officer Cornelius’ quick actions to rectify the situation,” Peterson said.
Washington Police Chief Derrick Devine said the juvenile faces criminal charges as a result of the incident.
