SULLIVAN, Ind. (WTWO-WAWV) — Sunday is the one-year anniversary of the tornado that killed three people in Sullivan.
Last summer, Sullivan Cares had the idea to make this memorial a reality. It will include several benches and a plaque dedicated to those impacted by the storm.
Originally, they did not have any concrete for the benches, but TNT solutions and Whitfield Concrete Construction helped fix that problem Friday so that everything would be good to go for the ceremony.
Member of Sullivan Cares Bailey Potts describes what she wants the memorial to represent.
“I think the memorial as a whole will be a place anyone in the community can come reflect on the devastation that took place but also the rebuilding of our community, moving forward, and just a place to reflect and come together,” said Potts.
She also said that the process of making this memorial has really shown the power of the Sullivan community.
“Throughout the journey of making this memorial a reality, it has opened my eyes as to how much people care about one another in this area,” she said. “The amount of support we have received about this is not what we do it for, but it shows that people truly care.”
The reveal ceremony will take place Sunday at 6 p.m. at Sullivan City Park.
