UNIVERSAL, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Aris Farm in Universal has a new edition to the family. His name is Eclipse.
Eclipse is a two-year-old alpaca and his owner Mara Pence has been training him for the Vigo County 4-H Program. Mara named him Eclipse after the 2024 Solar Eclipse taking place on April 8.
Mara has shown alpacas for two years, but has never actually owned one. The 4-H program has a leasing program for kids that don’t have access to the animals. Eclipse is Mara’s first alpaca that she’s been training on her own.
Mara plans on watching the Solar Eclipse with Eclipse and the other animals on the farm.
“We’re gonna watch it up here so we can see the animals’ reactions to pitch blackness and then go back to daylight,” Mara said.
“Are you excited to have your buddy Eclipse with you?” Videographer Ashley Zukokas said.
“Yeah! He’s gonna be the mascot! So, I’m gonna make the best time out of it,” Mara said.
If anyone would like to meet Eclipse or the other animals on the farm, you can visit their website or call at 812-243-9043.
