TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — As Black History Month continues, a local elementary school also continued a fun and educational event for a third year.
This week, fourth graders at Benjamin Franklin Elementary School held a “wax museum” event. Each fourth grader got to choose a famous African American from history or modern times to learn about and then present at the wax museum.
“They researched their character that they wanted, they wrote their bios for them, they got their costumes themselves,” Ruth Clark, Behavior Interventionist and Diversity Leader at Benjamin Franklin Elementary School explained. “They did it themselves and I think since they actually did this themselves, they have learned a lot about the characters as well as their classmates’ characters.”
On Wednesday, the 4th graders got to present in front of 3rd-grade students, and on Thursday, they had the opportunity to give their presentation in front of their parents.
