TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A probable cause affidavit filed in Vigo County Court is providing more details regarding the recent arrest of a Terre Haute woman in relation to confinement and aggravated battery charges.
On Tuesday, Terre Haute Police announced the arrest of ShaAnna L. Howell, 43, for multiple felony charges.
The court document states that police were made aware of the situation on Monday when a victim showed up to Union Hospital with a fractured orbital socket and multiple stab wounds.
After the victim was taken to an Indianapolis hospital due to the severity of her injuries, she told police that she had been staying at a residence in the 1900 block of N. 1st Street in Terre Haute. The victim stated that she had stolen some money from Howell, who also lived at the residence.
The victim told police that when she arrived home that day she was confronted by Howell at gunpoint. Howell, along with her boyfriend, reportedly confronted the woman about the money. At that time, Howell reportedly began striking the woman in the face with her gun. After hitting her, Howell reportedly grabbed a large fixed-blade knife and stabbed her with it several times.
The victim said Howell’s boyfriend fired a gunshot in the air while the victim was being stabbed to get her attention. The victim claimed Howell was threatening to kill her.
The victim said Howell then took her cell phone and ordered her to change out of her bloody clothes and go to their basement. That was when the victim reportedly escaped out of a back door and ran to the hospital.
Police reported that during a search of the residence, they found evidence suggesting some truth to the victim’s claims including a fixed-blade knife in the living room near some blood, socks in the trash can, and bloody pants in the back room which had stains that matched where the victim had been stabbed.
Police also reported finding that the floors had been freshly mopped and that there was a mop bucket with what appeared to be bloody water inside.
When questioned by police, Howell reportedly told them that the victim had taken money from her, that she confronted the victim about it, but said they only argued verbally before she kicked the victim out of the house.
