MARSHALL, ILL. (WTWO/WAWV) — The holiday season has officially commenced in Marshall, Illinois.
The downtown streets and businesses are filled with decorations symbolizing the holidays. This is the time of year that many enjoy the most in this area.
Marshall mayor, John Hasten, said the holidays are a perfect way to bring people together.
“It’s all about companionship. It’s all about camaraderie. It’s about the ability to pull people together for a common cause. You need that common cause and people will come together,” said Hasten.
One of the places participating in the holiday spirit is the Marshall Public Library. The staff has added Christmas decorations to their train depot kid’s area along with a Santa Claus statue outside of the building.
Alyson Thompson is the director of the library, and she expressed what she wants the children to gain from this.
“I don’t think children realize when they come to the library they are being educated about Marshall’s history, which is charming. We want to provide a place where children can come, feel safe, and welcomed. We are hopeful that will make them lifelong learners,” said Thompson.
No matter what your age is, the city of Marshall wants to be able to allow everyone to have the best holiday season possible.
“We want everyone to feel the warmth of Christmas and enjoy what Christmas really means,” added Hasten.
Marshall is going to kick off the holiday season with its city-wide Hometown Holly Days celebration on December 2nd.
