TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — We Live has been a staple event in the Terre Haute Community for almost a decade.
The We Live event is an annual event that has been a part of the community for nine years running. This is seen by many to be a back-to-school event.
However, President and CEO of the Hamilton Center Melvin Burks, says it’s much more than that.
“To show the neighborhood that we’re in that they matter. There is great value that in this neighborhood, and we wanted them to know that.”
This is also a place where local organizations can show off what they provide to the community. This was no different for the Vigo County Health Department.
The Public Health Educator, Shelby Jackson, express her love for this event.
“It’s a great crowd. We’re connecting with many community members. It’s very beneficial to Terre Haute to have this We Live event.”
We Live provides many services to the community. It is able to shine a light on parts of this community that don’t always get that opportunity.
For Burks, that is what this event is all about.
“I’ll tell you what, I feel elated. I feel so happy, and I feel so emotional about the people who are coming here. You see them, all of them, everywhere you look in the park there’s someone doing something for the benefit of our community. It means a lot to me that this event is going on right now.”
There were also many awards given out to outstanding members and contributors to this community.
