KNOX COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — An arrest has been made in connection to the death of 18-year-old Hunter Ravellette from Vincennes.
According to a press release from the Indiana State Police, after an autopsy report was conducted, the Knox County Coroner’s Office ruled Ravellette’s preliminary manner of death as a homicide with the cause of death a “non-contact gunshot wound to his chest.” The toxicology report is still pending.
ISP, along with Vincennes Police, responded to the area of East Locust Street in Vincennes on Friday, March 31 around 10:05 p.m. for reports of a subject with a gunshot wound. When law enforcement arrived on the scene, they found Ravellette in the driveway with a gunshot wound to his chest. Emergency service crews performed CPR and other life-saving measures, but Ravellette was pronounced dead at the scene.
ISP has conducted an investigation of the shooting and sent their reports on the incident to Knox County Prosecutor’s Office. On Thursday, April 13, criminal charges were filed against 18-year-old George Smith of Vincennes for reckless homicide, a level 5 felony.
At around 4:00 p.m. on April 13, Smith was arrested after turning himself in at the Knox County Jail and was later released after posting a bond. The investigation also resulted in the arrest of a 17-year-old juvenile from Vincennes for the illegal possession of a firearm, a Class A misdemeanor.
