ROSEDALE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — An Indiana state senator visited a local elementary school Wednesday to see how technology is helping children with communication skills.
Rosedale Elementary School has a robot called “Milo” from Robokind. Milo was designed to interact with children on the autism spectrum, but can help any child who needs assistance with communication.
The robot can help students with facial expressions, mood control, making eye contact and speaking. State Senator Spencer Deery says one of his children is on the autism spectrum.
“The benefit is not only was it exciting for them but it was something that’s helped them to develop and grow and so we need that, and I’m really grateful to the educators that helped to make that experience so positive for them,” Deery said.
“I can’t say enough about how it has impacted our kids,” Rosedale Elementary Principal Diana Spence said. We have students who are communicating who otherwise would have not have. They are developing personalities based on their interactions with Milo.”
The school says they were able to get Milo with grant funding from the state.
