TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)– Indiana State Police made three DUI arrests in the Putnamville district over the Holiday weekend, which saw an increase in patrols to match Thanksgiving travel.
Sgt. Matt Ames said they also made several arrests on outstanding warrants during routine traffic stops, and one habitual traffic violator was arrested as well. Across the state, ISP responded to six fatal accidents.
Ames said the increased patrols will continue for the last month of 2022.
“Just a friendly reminder to everyone, from now until the beginning of the New Year, we will continue to have extra patrols out,” he said. “Of course, we will be looking for the intoxicated drivers, people out here driving aggressively, not making the roadways safe for everyone. We want to encourage everyone to be a safe motorist.”
He said funding for the extra patrols comes from the National Transport and Safety Authority, and it’s a standard practice for this time of year.
“We have extra grant money that’s provided to us through NTSA that allows us to have extra officers out there patrolling the roadways so our other officers can continue to answer calls,” Ames said.
