BRAZIL, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Max and Honey’s Flower and Pumpkin Farm is hosting its first Sunflower Market this weekend, despite some storm damage they received earlier in the week.
The market will take place Saturday, September 3rd from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Valerie Smith, owner of Max and Honey’s, said they started growing a field of sunflowers, that was also going to be a maze, specifically for this event.
“Monday night we had some severe storms and they came and they wiped out the middle of our field unfortunately so that’s a big disappointment for us, we don’t have that maze available to offer because it got destroyed in our storms,” Smith said.
Smith said despite the sunflower field suffering a lot of damage, the rest of the farm was left in pretty good shape, and they were able to clean-up any other damage.
“Luckily our flower rows are still in tact and they weren’t damaged, just a couple of spots here and there in the rows of our cut flowers that we grow,” Smith said.
Smith said people can still come and pick their own bouquet of flowers and take pictures with the sunflowers.
She said there will be over 30 vendors at the market selling a wide-variety of items, along with a few food trucks.
Despite the unexpected storm, Smith said she is excited to get to do her favorite thing this weekend: sharing her flowers.
“My mom and I work to grow those all season long and people come out, they cut their own bouquet and flowers help bring joy to people. My favorite part of the summer in general is getting to share that joy with other people,” Smith said.
The cost of admission to the Sunflower Market is $5, cash, per car.
Max and Honey’s is located at 12783 N. Private Road 385 East, in Brazil.
