TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WAWV/WTWO) – On Wednesday, President Joe Biden announced the Student Loan Forgiveness Plan, and many local students remain positive.
As 43 million borrowers are expected to receive relief, Indiana State University students say this will affect their futures.

Indiana State Freshman Unique McClain says she had to be her own self-advocate for quite some time. For McClain, this means meeting with financial aid and figuring out a plan to start paying off her student loans.
“It’s very scary for someone who’s doing it on their own,” McClain said. “Walking out of the meeting I realized I was in more debt than I thought I would be.”
While it is unclear how the Biden Administration will distribute relief for graduates and current students, Nursing Major, Ashli Ellis, said this is a step in the right direction.
“I believe that student loan forgiveness is a really good thing because it just helps you know first-time students, and first-time generation students like me,” Ellis said.
Business Management Major, Kaylen McVicar, said while students have many responsibilities, student loans should be the last thing people worry about.
“With the rising cost of inflation, it’ll be really important, especially with how young students are being right out of college,” McVicar said.
While loan forgiveness, payment extensions, and new income-driven repayment plans are expected in the coming weeks, McClain said no matter what the future holds she will continue to push through it all.
“Anything worth it is never easy,” McClain said.
