TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Local community members are learning more ways to make Terre Haute the place to be.
The Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs (OCRA) gave a presentation Thursday at the Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce.
The topic was “placemaking”, which is the art of making a place somewhere people want to live, work and be.
Officials say it’s at the forefront of community and economic development.
“One great example I just passed here on the street was the piano,” says OCRA project manager Colette Childress. “You just take something that’s mundane and turn it into something a little special. They’ve got this concrete walkway that you don’t really know is there and then all of the sudden, there’s this throwback to music and you’ve got this piano right in the middle of downtown.”
Childress says Indiana Lieutenant Governor Suzanne Crouch recently announced more than $100,000 for placemaking programs.
