VIGO CO., Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Vigo County sheriff’s deputy Jeff Bell was placed on suspension with no pay Monday after a sheriff’s merit board meeting.
Bell was arrested earlier this month by Indiana State Police on domestic battery charges. Sheriff John Plasse placed Bell on administrative leave for 15 days.
Bell was a nearly 19-year veteran with the sheriff’s department. Four of five merit board members were present for the decision Monday via video conference, the four approved the suspension with no pay.
We talked with Sheriff John Plasse after the meeting.
“If he were convicted of charges, he would not be able to be a law enforcement officer, so it is a serious charge.”
Plasse says Bell’s suspension will be reevaluated after bell’s court proceedings which will pick up in June. Plasse also says the situation is unfortunate for Bell and the sheriff’s department.
