GREENE COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A Pendleton Indiana man was taken into custody following a pursuit on I-69 at speeds in excess of 100 mph.
According to Indiana State Police, the chase began when a trooper clocked a Lexus SUV going 103 mph in a 70 mph zone near the 97-mile-marker of I-69 Wednesday afternoon. The driver refused to stop and continued to run after the officer had attempted to pull him over and entered Monroe County.
The vehicle took the SR 37 exit and headed south, but not before striking a rock embankment. Traffic at the intersection near Victor Pike caused the driver to stop the vehicle and begin to flee on foot. The Trooper eventually was able to catch and detain the subject, but the altercation caused an injury to the officer’s shoulder.
Police report that the driver, Brian A. Hauke of Pendleton, Indiana, showed signs of being impaired and admitted to officers that he had consumed controlled substances for several days prior to the incident. Hauke was found to be driving on a suspended license and had outstanding warrants for his arrest out of Hamilton, Hancock, and Marion counties.
Both Hauke and the injured officer were taken to local hospitals for treatment. Hauke was then placed under arrest and charged with the following:
- Resisting Law Enforcement with a Vehicle – level 6 felony
- Possession of Methamphetamine – level 6 felony
- OVWI- Controlled Substance with a Prior – level 6 felony
- Reckless Driving – class C misdemeanor
- Driving w/Suspended w/Prior Charge – class C misdemeanor
- Possession Paraphernalia – class C misdemeanor
- Resisting Law Enforcement – class C misdemeanor
