JASONVILLE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Police are investigating an officer involved shooting that happened Friday afternoon in Greene County.
According to a press release by Indiana State Police, an officer from the Jasonville Police Department responded to a neighborhood in Jasonville about a disruptive subject holding a knife outside of a residence after calls from local concerned citizens.
Police said that when they made contact with the man holding the knife, he allegedly refused commands to drop the weapon and lunged toward the officer.
The officer reportedly fired at least one shot from their handgun which hit the suspect.
The press release said the suspect was transported to a nearby hospital for potentially life-threatening injuries and his current medical condition is unknown.
No one else was injured in the incident.
The identity of the suspect and the officer are being withheld at this time.
Police said this is an active criminal investigation by the Indiana State Police.
Once the criminal investigation is complete, the investigation will be turned over to the Greene County Prosecutor for review and determination of charges, if any, to be filed.
