INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Employers in Indiana can receive extra support when it comes to matters of mental health for employees with the establishment of a new Wellness Council of Indiana program.
The Indiana Chamber of Commerce says the program is called Mental Health First Aid. It’s designed to help employers identify the risk factors and warning signs of mental illnesses, as well as how to connect individuals to the appropriate care.
“The past two years have really brought mental health concerns and needs to the forefront, and this program is a timely and convenient vehicle for employers to assist their workers in this area,” said Wellness Council of Indiana Executive Director Jennifer Pferrer. “This training takes the fear and hesitation out of starting conversations about mental health and substance use problems by improving understanding, and providing an action plan that teaches people how to safely and responsibly identify and address a potential mental illness or substance use disorder.”
The Wellness Council has scheduled three Mental Health First Aid virtual Zoom training sessions throughout the year, with the first happening on April 13. Employers wishing to take part must first complete a 2-hour self-paced online module in order to receive certification at the completion of the Zoom session.
The Wellness Council is also giving employers the opportunity to bring this training directly to their workplace for a private training session.
