TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A Terre Haute man has been arrested after fleeing police Tuesday for a short period.
Indiana State Police announced the arrest of 28-year-old Ronald Luci after an officer pursued him into the Willow Crossings Apartments subdivision. State Trooper Andrew Mattern reported that he spotted Luci riding a bicycle near Jessica Drive and recognized Luci as having multiple active warrants.
After telling Luci to stop via loudspeaker, the man allegedly ignored the request and began fleeing police as he turned onto Mews Drive. According to police, Luci then proceeded into a fenced-in area attempting to ride his bike through deep snow.
Trooper Mattern reports chasing the rider on foot until Luci wrecked his bike. Then Luci continued to flee on foot, Mattern said he witnessed Luci discarding items from his pockets during this portion of the chase. Once Mattern caught up to the man, he was taken into custody without further incident.
Police report finding methamphetamine among the items discarded by Luci during the pursuit. Luci has been charged with numerous offenses including possession of methamphetamine, resisting law enforcement, escape from lawful detention/violating a home detention order, and counterfeiting.
Luci was then taken to the Vigo County Jail and held on a $150,000 bond. He appeared in the Vigo Superior Court Division III for arraignment Wednesday morning. Luci is due in court next Monday, Feb. 14.
