INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Hoosiers could soon have more places to purchase cold beer.
That’s the goal behind a bill authored by Sen. Philip Boots, which aims to repeal current provisions that stop a grocery store, including a convenience store or drug store, from selling and delivering cold beer for carryout.
Boots did author similar legislation in 2021, but that bill did not make it out of the statehouse.
The bill is currently under review in the Committee on Public Policy.

Another bill authored by a local legislator would require the Secretary of State to conduct a pilot audit of computer election equipment in 10 Indiana counties, including Vigo County.
Sen. Jon Ford is behind the legislation, which is focused on equipment used in the upcoming 2022 general election. The audit would take place post-election.
The Committee on Elections is currently reviewing this bill.

The future Vigo County casino operations are related to another bill penned by a local legislator.
Rep. Alan Morrison authored a bill that would change some of the hold harmless payment requirements set in place by the original gaming bill that passed in 2019 allowing for a casino license to come to Vigo County.
The bill aims to make hold harmless agreements or an agreement to offset financial loss between a casino, riverboat, or unit of government and another unit of government unenforceable.
The bill also would repeal a requirement that the licensed owner of a riverboat operating in Vigo County would make certain payments to the city of Evansville.
Additionally, the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the President Pro Tempore of the Senate would each appoint a member of the Indiana Gaming Commission.
This bill is being considered in the Committee on Public Policy.
