ROBINSON, Ill. (WTWO/WAWV) — Construction of a new recreation center on Lincoln Trail College campus will begin this fall.
The new facility will allow all residents of Crawford County to use the it. This decision comes after strong community support for the center.
“One of the main reasons that we wanted to do this is we wanted to keep improving the quality of life in Crawford County for everybody and that’s what this facility is really about,” says Chris Forde, Director of Marketing for Illinois Eastern Community Colleges.
Community members expressed their wishes to have another activity to do, and Forde believes they answered with the facility.
“We’re trying to give people one more option of something to do here in Crawford County,” says Forde
The estimated cost of the project is approximately $3 million dollars. Most of the money has been raised through private funds and donations from community members.
“It’s significant not just in the cost,” says Forde. “But the buy in that we’ve had from in the community to move forward with a project like this.”
The center will include a multisport court, pool and several other fitness programs.
The recreation center is expected to be completed by early 2023.
