CLARK COUNTY, Ill. (WTWO/WAWV) – Some people who do not live in the city of Marshall, Illinois, may have voted on a city referendum, according to the Clark County Clerk.
Marshall residents were asked in Tuesday night’s primary if the city should allow the sale or manufacturing of marijuana in city limits. 51% said no, while 49% said yes.
Clark County Clerk Laura Lee released a statement Wednesday saying her office has learned an election judge mistakenly gave some voters who live outside of Marshall a ballot that included the question.
Lee says the election judge believes about seven wrong ballots were given and it’s not known if those ballots were cast in favor or against the proposition.
There are also three absentee ballots that could come in and change the numbers, according to Lee.
The election will not be official until March 31. Lee says the proposition was non-binding and being used by the Marshall City Council to gauge how voters feel about the measure.
The clerk’s office has informed the city about the error.
