SULLIVAN, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Trial dates are set for the two men facing charges in connection to a fatal shooting in Carlisle.
23-year-old Matthew Earle of Terre Haute had his initial hearing Friday in Sullivan County Circuit Court. His pretrial conference was scheduled for 9 a.m. on August 16 and his jury trial for 9 a.m. on September 28.
The second suspect in the case, 20-year-old Kyle Johnson of Coal City, is scheduled to have a pretrial conference on September 7 and a jury trial on October 12.
The two men are facing charges in connection to a June 10 shooting that left a local teenager dead. According to court documents, two groups gathered at the corner of Lewis and Ledgerwood Streets in Carlisle where a fight was scheduled to take place.
Court documents say Earle told investigators he fired shots at the ground and that Johnson fired rounds toward the opposing group. 15-year-old Mezmariah Wilson of Shelburn was struck and killed.
Earle and Johnson now both face charges of criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, a level 5 felony, and obstruction of justice, a level 6 felony. Indiana State Police Sgt. Matt Ames said the investigation is still active and ongoing.
