OLNEY, Ill. (WTWO/WAWV)– Olney Police Department, Richland County Sheriff’s office and Illinois State Police responded to a single vehicle crash in Olney, IL Saturday that left two people dead.
Authorities said the driver, Matthew Mattox, 60, of Dundas, IL drove his car into Deuce’s Wild Bar, located on 433 S. West St.
Mattox was traveling westbound on West North Avenue proceeding toward South West Street before he crossed the intersection. While crossing the intersection, he veered off the roadway crashing into the bar’s patio section.
Two Olney women, Judy L. Jourdan, 69, and Deann C. Richardson, 48, were standing on the patio and struck by Mattox’s vehicle.
Both women were pronounced dead at the scene by the Richland County Coroner’s Office.
Mattox was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
Mattox was arrested for Aggravated Driving Under the Influence, No Valid License, and Improper Lane Usage.
The incident is currently under investigation by the Olney Police Department, Richland County Sheriff’s Department, and Illinois State Police.
