VINCENNES, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A vehicle and foot pursuit during which the suspect broke into a residence to elude police ended in an arrest Monday afternoon, the Vincennes Police Department reported.
Vincennes Police received a vehicle theft complaint at approximately 1:55 p.m. of a 2014 silver Jeep Grand Cherokee, with the name of a possible suspect. While officers were searching for the vehicle, an officer spotted the vehicle at the intersection of Willow and Emison at approximately 2:42 p.m. The officer also observed the named suspect, identified as Nicholas Anthis, in the driver’s seat.
The officer attempted a traffic stop, but the vehicle failed to stop and accelerated rapidly. The vehicle eventually stopped at 12th and Broadway. Anthis fled from the vehicle on foot, failing to put the vehicle into park. The Jeep Grand Cherokee rolled into a chain-linked fence, damaging the fence.
Anthis then broke the back window of a residence in the area and reached through it, unlocking the door. The resident came outside and told officers the suspect was in his house. An officer apprehended Anthis in the kitchen.
Anthis was found to have two active felony warrants out of Knox County as well as one misdemeanor warrant.
Anthis was placed under arrest for the following charges: burglary, resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, vehicle theft, possession of methamphetamine, possession of a legend drug, residential entry, driving while suspended prior, criminal mischief and reckless driving.
The Knox County Sheriff’s Department and Indiana State Police assisted.
