TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — On Monday night, a six-month-long investigation helped law enforcement seize 19 pounds of methamphetamine which has a street value of more than $250,000.
According to the Terre Haute Police Department, Bishop Higgins and Dezierae Smith were both arrested at the scene.
Higgins was was charged with dealing methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon. He is being held on a $100,000 bond.
Smith faces a drug possession charge and was released by the court.
“When you really ram it out, if you look at it, about 100 dollars per price of a gram. You almost took off almost a million dollars worth of street value of Methamphetamine in Terre Haute,” said Mike Gannon, assistant special agent for the Indiana Drug Enforcement Agency.
Sergeant Ryan Adamson of the Terre Haute Police Department says the partnership with the DEA makes the community safer.
“Any drugs off the street is a positive thing, but when you’re talking about almost 20 pounds of methamphetamine to the tune of, like I said, a quarter-million dollars,” said Adamson. “More importantly it’s a big impact to keep those drugs out of the hands of young people in our communities.”
DEA agent Gannon says that this is an on-going investigation.
