TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A retired soldier is walking 6-thousand of those miles … Spreading awareness on post traumatic stress disorder.
Retired Sergeant Steve Meyers’ 20-state journey started in Kansas City and brought him to Terre Haute Sunday evening.
The Loyal Veterans’ Battalion hosted him for dinner at the Pie Company where he shared his message of hope for those living with PTSD.
He said it’s his own struggle with the disorder that’s motivated him to make sure others know they’re not alone.
“A lot of people are afraid to get care because there’s a lot of barriers or repercussions if they do get care. So i wanted to tell them about my story. Maybe some of the things i did for myself or the treatments that I got, they can hear those things and maybe that can help them,” Sgt. Stephens said.
Sgt. Stephens said Indianapolis is the next stop on his journey.
He will then make his way east toward Florida, then west, before going back to Kansas City.
