TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Students from several schools across the valley put their STEM skills to test at the Indiana Regional Science Olympiad.
Ten high schools and four middle schools competed in more than 20 science, tech, engineering and math events at Ivy Tech Community College.
The students took part in several hands-on activities as well as written exams.
Staff with Ivy Tech said it’s their aim to prepare students for careers in STEM.
They say the event also promotes school pride and is open to any school group that wants to participate.
“If you don’t see your school here or know that your schools here. You might go and talk to somebody and say ‘hey, let’s get a team together,’ and then help support that team leader, that coach, and get them to a competition. Whether it’s here with us or at another campus,” said Science Department chair, Sarah Liechty.
Awards were given out at the end of the competition.
