TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – With middle schools returning to five-day a week in-person learning, COVID-19 has remained the main topic of discussion.
Monday night, the Vigo County school corporation reported eight new Covid-19 cases among students and staff at six schools throughout.
According to Vigo County school corporation director of communications Bill Riley, those eight cases were reported from over a few days time. He says the school corporation has not see any upswings in cases at any one school and have not detected any hotspots.
“We have 27 schools within our district so we’re not really seeing one particular school being a problem. It’s really spread out,” stated Riley. “We have over 10,000 of our students that are choosing an in person education. We also have over 2,000 staff members in our school corporation.”
The school corporation is working daily with the health department and their task force. Changes will be made if an uptick at individual schools are noticed. There is potential for high school students to return next week but those plans are still being discussed.
“This year being the year of COVID, we’re also flexible enough that if we see a reason to reduce the number of children in our building’s were also flexible enough to do that,” explained Riley.
