TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Indiana State University and Hoosier Energy are partnering to help local workers learn the skills to pursue jobs in renewable energy.
The new program allows Hoosier Energy employees to earn an undergraduate certificate in “emerging energy technology” within a year.
Hoosier Energy said the program was created to help employees impacted by the retirement of the coal-fired Merom Generating Station in 2023.
Each employee who participates in the program will complete six courses that are online so it does not interfere with their work schedule.
“The excitement is there,” Greg Seiter, Communications Manager for Hoosier Energy, said. “They are really appreciative of what we’re doing here, working collaboratively with Indiana State. The impact with the messaging, it’s all been very positive and well received.”
