PENSACOLA, Fla. (WTWO/WAWV) – Duke Energy lineworkers and support personnel from the Wabash Valley and around the state of Indiana are helping restore power to the Gulf Coast.
Hurricane Sally recently caused a lot of damage and outages in the region.
Duke Energy Spokesperson Jeff Brooks is near Pensacola, Florida, and says there are 50 Duke Energy workers from Indiana, including four from Terre Haute, who are helping in the region.
Brooks says it has been a lot of work, but that it’s important for them to help.
“When major storms hit, it takes more than local resources to get the power back on. People often don’t realize the partnerships that we have with other utilities. They are very established relationships. They allow us to help one another in times of need,” says Brooks.
He says crews made a lot of progress over the weekend and expects them to return to Indiana soon.
