TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – The Vigo County School Board has approved amendments to the corporation’s return to school plan.
The amended plan includes the A-B cohort model that was announced on Friday.
Superintendent Dr. Rob Haworth says the new model will help limit the number of students in the hallways or classrooms.
The model was introduced as a way to respond to increasing COVID-19 numbers in Vigo County.
During Monday’s school board meeting, there were mixed reactions from the community on a return to in-person learning.
We spoke to Haworth about his response.
“We have not looked at anything in isolation. When you look at other community plans that are out there across the state of Indiana and across the nation, there’s not too many options that you see being employed and we think that we have offered every one of those options,” Haworth said.
The amended plan was approved by a vote of 4 to 1. Board member Rosemarie Scott voted against the plan, due to concerns that the community is not following health guidelines to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
During the meeting, Vigo County Chief Medical Officer Dr. Darren Brucken spoke in support of the school corporation’s plan.
This plan will stay in place through September 4th.
