TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— The Salvation Army is looking for volunteers for its annual Red Kettle Christmas Campaign.
The Salvation Army is seeking community members to staff kettles at retail locations in Vigo County for this year’s campaign. There are currently 3,500 hours of bell ringing planned for November and December. Most of the positions are volunteer, but a few paid ringer positions are also available. The Salvation Army has been running the campaign for 134 years.
“Bell ringers are the lifeblood of our Red Kettle campaign,” said Major Tim Parker with The Salvation Army of Vigo County. “All our ministries to the community depend on funds raised during the Christmas season, so we’re incredibly grateful for each and every person who rings to help change lives.”
Volunteer positions can be filled out at this link for individuals, families, groups, and organizations looking to give back. The Salvation Army said that it depends on hundreds of volunteers each year for their two-hour shifts. They said each shift can raise enough money to feed a family of four for a week.
For paid positions, the individual must be at least 16 years old and can work up to 40 hours a week through Christmas Eve. Applications are available at the Salvation Army, open from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and closed for lunch from noon to 1 p.m. It is located at 234 South 8th Street.
Red Kettles collect money to fund year-round ministries, including their feeding programs for those less fortunate. For more information about the Salvation Army’s programs and services, you can call 812-232-4081 or click this link.
