VIGO COUNTY (WTWO/WAWV) – UPDATE: Details have been released in the wreck on U.S. 41 that closed the highway Friday.
According to Chief Deputy Steve Meng with the Vigo County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a call about a wreck at the intersection of U.S. Highway 41 and Howard Wayne Drive around 1:56 p.m. He said that initial investigations revealed that an SUV was traveling northbound on U.S. Highway 41 when another SUV attempted to cross the northbound lanes to turn east onto Howard Wayne Drive.
As a result, the two vehicles collided, sending one of the SUVs off the roadway and into a ditch and ejecting the driver from the vehicle. The driver was airlifted to an Indianapolis hospital with unknown injuries. The other driver was also transported to a local hospital for treatment. Chief Deputy Meng stated that the crash is still under investigation.
All four lanes of US 41 South, just south of Terre Haute, were closed due to a two-vehicle accident at around 2 p.m. on Friday.
According to a WTWO reporter on scene, there were two vehicles involved, one of which had heavy front-end damage.
Lifeline landed on US 41 to transport one patient.
This is a developing story and WTWO will have more information when available.
