CLINTON, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— A local child care facility is celebrating its fifth decade in business.
Valley Child Development Center is located in Clinton, Indiana and opened in 1975. Valley Child Development Center was opened by two mothers who believed their community needed pre-school education programs to better prepare children for elementary school, officials said. Valley Child Development Center is now the only state-licensed preschool in Vermillion County.
The center is a non-profit, Level Three Paths to Quality facility. Paths to Quality is a four-level, state rating and improvement system for early childhood education programs. Level three programs are described as “use a validated curriculum, support professional development of staff, and emphasize family engagement.”
The center credits its longtime success to encouraging each child to develop self-awareness, creativity, and independence through a nurturing environment that encourages learning.
“We sincerely appreciate the support received from the community and our board of directors, that has resulted in Valley helping hundreds of children be successful in school,” said Center Director Jen Short. “We’re always improving and are excited about expanding our program in the future.”
The center offers educational programs for children aged three to five and remains open throughout the year. The center currently has openings for a few new students and is located at 325 Blackman Street in Clinton, Indiana.
