BRAZIL, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— This time of year, with falling leaves, changes in temperature, and pollen in the air, allergies tend to flare up. But people are not the only ones affected.
Your pets can also have allergy issues, especially if they spend time outdoors. If you notice your pets itching, scratching, and digging, these could be signs of allergies. But they could also be signs of other issues, like fleas.
The best thing to do if you notice symptoms is to talk to a vet. That way, your pet can be properly treated for whatever is causing the discomfort.
“The goal is that, in the process of collecting a really good history, verifying the background for for the animals sake, talking with the owner, doing the exam, and identifying all those layers, that we get resolution and get a happy pet faster, and a happy owner faster,” said John Shepherd, Owner/Veterinarian of Four Loving Paws Veterinarian Services. “But ultimately it really does take identifying all of the underlying reasons and issues, and allergies are just a small component of it.”
He also said if you’re treating your pet for fleas, it’s important to have the right balance of bathing and prevention methods to get the best results.
