TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Tonight an event held by the Vigo county democrats featured a nationally known political figure.
The event featured guest speakers such as Beau Bayh, who is running for Indiana’s Secretary of State, Brad Ellsworth, Joe Donley, Terre Haute Mayor Brandon Sakbun, Mary Allen, and more.
The main speaker, James Carville, most widely known for being Bill Clinton’s chief strategist in the 1992 presidential race.
Many things were on the agenda to discuss, but one of the most important was how voter turnout was at an all-time low in Indiana last year. All the speakers talked about how they need to motivate and spread awareness to the next generations.
Carville spoke about how not much has changed in what you look for in politics. it’s always been and always will be about the people he said.
“Politics is about people,” said Carville. “All right and how you relate to people how the government relates to people the things that we do to change people’s lives and understand that there is no next thing.”
“Two young bright candidates here tonight,” said Joe Etling, Chair of the Vigo County democratic party. “Who I think represent the future of not only the Democratic Party, but the future of Indiana and I think we’ve got to have people rally behind them and I think that’s what James was saying tonight that we got to get behind these kinds of people and put them out front.”
