TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A little bit of blood can save three lives and next week, you will have a chance to make a difference.
Our local firefighters and police officers are battling one another, to see who can give the most blood and save the most lives.
“It’s also good to have a little friendly competition between the fire department and the police department and it just shows the strength we have in our community. Public safety, leading from the front,” said Nick Arnold, Public Information Officer for the Terre haute Fire Department.
Located at the Terre Haute Casino Resort, an exciting two-day event will take place on Tuesday. The Battle of the Badges.
Last year, the fire department came out on top. Winning feels good, but it’s even better to address an important issue.
“It’s something that absolutely we need. Your donations stay local. So, anytime that the police or the fire on the serious crashes or serious incidents, we know that we’re going to have the supply at the hospital when we get there. Even with our ambulances when they arrive on scene,” said Lieutenant Justin Sears, Public Information Officer for the Terre Haute Fire Department.
Both departments said they are hoping to get more people to donate. Last year, residents and visitors gave one hundred eleven units.
It only takes about 45 minutes out of your day to make a life-changing donation. Come out and support your local leaders and community on Tuesday. This event runs Tuesday September 30th and Wednesday October 1st, from 9am to 6pm each day.
