SHELBURN, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — UPDATE: According to a press release from the Indiana State Police, two individuals were killed in the shooting.
The release states that just after 4 a.m. Monday, deputies responded to a 911 call about a shooting in the Shelburn area. When they arrived, deputies attempted to make contact with any individuals at the residence but received no response. The release states that when deputies and troopers cleared the home, they discovered a dead woman and a dead man with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The release continues stating the identities of the victims as 81-year-old Keith Sheffler and 75-year-old Judy Sheffler of Shelburn.
Indiana State Police (ISP) said they are conducting a death investigation in the 7500 block of North County Road 300 West, near State Road 48.
According to ISP Sergeant Matt Ames, state police are conducting the investigation at the request of Sullivan County Sheriff Jason Bobbit.
There is little information about this ongoing situation at this time, but a WTWO/WAWV reporter on the scene said there are at least five unmarked police vehicles and one ambulance currently responding.
Ames added that the scene is secured and there is no threat to the public.
