MEROM, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Earlier this week, Merom revealed their new look of the historic auditorium.
As we previously reported, the historic building at the Merom Camp and Retreat Center is over 150 years old and is one of the few historic buildings still in use in Indiana. David Shrum, Board Member and Chairman of the Concert/Events Committee had a vision of what this could be, so along with his wife and the Merom board, they created a space for the community to use.
During their rededication on Friday, they also revealed the auditorium’s new name, the Beth Reed Auditorium, named after Board Member at Merom Camp and Retreat Center Beth Reed’s dedication to this project.
Shrum has also been passionate for the community.
“I’ve had the privilege, I really mean privilege that I’ve helped kinda redo or rebirth two of the most historic buildings in Sullivan County. The Sherman building and this one and I guess it’s, I’m not sure where that came from. I guess it’s just a passion that I’ve found in myself,” said Shrum.
Shrum said there is still much work to be done on this building and the rest of the 27-acre land.
He said they need the support of the community and funds to continue their vision. To donate visit Home | Merom Camp & Retreat Center.
