SULLIVAN COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A driver surrendered after a short vehicle pursuit Tuesday afternoon in Sullivan County that turned up drugs and a handgun.
According to a media release from the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office on the afternoon of Tuesday, September 9, deputies attempted to pull over a vehicle traveling on County Road 600 N. in Sullivan County for multiple violations.
The release states that the driver of the SUV disregarded the deputies’ emergency lights and sirens, and a short pursuit ensued onto US 41 and then on to Mill Street in Shelburn. The driver, identified as 38-year-old John H. Taylor of Shelburn, eventually surrendered and was taken into custody.
During a probable cause search of the vehicle, deputies located approximately 30 grams of suspected alpha-PHP, also known as “bath salts,” methamphetamine, and drug paraphernalia and packaging materials.
“It was also discovered that Taylor, a serious violent felon, was also in possession of a loaded handgun,” the release states.
Taylor was transported to the Sullivan County Jail, where he faces the following charges:

- Possession of a Firearm by a Serious Violent Felon – Level 4 Felony
- Possession of Methamphetamine – Level 5 Felony
- Possession of a Controlled Substance – Level 6 Felony
- Resisting Law Enforcement – Level 6 Felony
- Possession of drug paraphernalia- a class C Misdemeanor
