TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— The Alzheimer’s Association is inviting residents to join in on the Walk to End Alzheimer’s at ISU Memorial Stadium.
On the day of the event, participants will participate in the Promise Garden ceremony to honor those affected by the disease. The Promise Garden ceremony is described as a mission-focused experience that signifies the solidarity in the fight against Alzheimer’s. During the ceremony, attendees will carry flowers of various colors, each representing their personal connection to the disease.
“This is a pivotal moment in the fight against Alzheimer’s. There are now treatments that change the course of the disease,” said Devon Pulliam, Walk Manager, Walk to End Alzheimer’s – Terre Haute. “We hope that everyone in our community can join us by starting a team to help the Alzheimer’s Association raise awareness and funds for families facing the disease today, take more steps toward treatments, and ultimately, a cure.”
More than 7,000,000 Americans live with the disease, which is a leading cause of death in the U.S. Additionally, nearly 12,000,000 family members and friends provide care to those living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias. In Indiana alone, more than 121,300 people are living with it, employing 219,000 caregivers.
The event is being held on September 27 to go the extra mile during World Alzheimer’s Month. Last year, Terre Haute participants raised nearly $56,000 and more than $2.5 million statewide. To register for the event and receive the latest updates on this year’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s, click here.
