MEROM, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — It was a beautiful day as the 3rd annual Pawpaw Festival took place.
If you’re wondering what a pawpaw is, well it’s a fruit grown on a tree right here in Indiana.
If you live near the woods, look closely, you may have a pawpaw tree. This fruit is not very well known due to its short life span.
However, when its soft and ripe, it has a mango and banana taste. Merom had over 40 vendors, and many people enjoyed the sunshine, while also grabbing a pawpaw to try, and more. Other activities included a hay rides, raffles, and taking in the beautiful Merom Bluff. Organizer Isaac Busby expects this festival will continue to grow.
“If they’re hard, don’t eat them and you don’t want to eat the green off theme either, but you can make all kinds of things with them. Pawpaw pudding, people make cheesecake with them. All kinds of treats,” said Busby.
If you missed out today, don’t worry the festival continues tomorrow. Be sure to check it out.
It will be open starting at 10 am until 6pm at Merom Bluff.
