PARIS, Ill. (WTWO/WAWV) — UPDATE: Paris Fire Chief Zach Janis said arrests have been made after an arson at the former Vance Elementary School Thursday morning in Paris, but no names have been released.
Firefighters battled the blaze after receiving a call about smoke coming from the building around 3 a.m.
According to the Paris Union School District 95, the elementary school has been out of service for over 20 years, with the 2000-2001 school year being the final year students were present.


An Illinois State Fire Marshal, as well as, the Paris Police and Fire Departments are taking part in the investigation into the fire.
Route 1 near the school was closed while the fire was being fought, but has since reopened.
