TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— CEO of Top Gun Steve Ellis recently announced he is running for Vigo County Sheriff and wants to help benefit the community while making sure everyone is still safe.
Ellis has spent nearly 17 years in law enforcement serving as a special deputy for Vigo County. He has also previously worked at the county jail and has been an emergency medical dispatcher.
If elected, Ellis will look into ways to help the taxpayers spend less on taxes for the county while also making sure the sheriff’s department can keep everyone in the county safe. Ellis is a current member of the Vigo County Council, and with his seeing how the county spends its money, he believes he can use the tools he has learned while being the CEO of Top Gun to his advantage and benefit everyone in the county.
“To represent the taxpayer as best as possible, we have to lower spending,” Ellis said. “I believe that is something that I have a lot of experience doing in running a local business, and now having a better understanding of how the county functions, the business side of it. I feel like I can bring those tools.”
The election for the Vigo County Sheriff’s Department will take place during the 2026 election.
