TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A local group has announced that they now have money, not only for mental health needs, but also for people who just need a meal or a coat.
Margie Anshutz is the President of the Hamilton Center Foundation. She said the foundation helps provide the center with money quicker than a grant would.
“Hamilton Center applies for many grants throughout the year, both state and federal grants, but they’re cumbersome”, Anshutz said. “They’re difficult to apply for, they’re highly competitive, and they’re very prescriptive. The foundation can grant money to Hamilton Center with a lot less of that red tape, so we’re able to quickly respond to community needs as we see it and when they happen.”
The Hamilton Center Foundation has announced they will be distributing over $50,000 to 17 different mental health and medical programs.
“Everything from training for clinical staff, to supplies and curriculum for therapy”, Anshutz said. “We have some art therapists here who needed some supplies to enhance their program.”
Funds will also go to help those that come to the Hamilton Center for help.
“Money will go to emergency funds when our consumers come here and they don’t have things like a coat”, Anshutz said. “They may need food and other things to help them feel more secure, so that they can address their mental health needs.”
Board member Doug Grim said this plan has been discussed thoroughly and the board is excited to serve the community in more ways this year.
“This year’s program has really been fun to see develop”, Grim said. “We’ve asked each of the department heads to tell us what their needs might be and some things you wouldn’t even imagine they would need, but they do.”
The Hamilton Center Foundation is a non-profit. If you want to learn more, become involved, or donate to the foundation, you can visit their website here.
