TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— Indiana State University welcomed students back to campus this week.
Those students coming back means a big influx of people into the city of Terre Haute.
The impact of that is felt in multiple areas throughout the city, from housing to traffic, and most notably, the local economy. Students not only bring a vibrancy to the city, but they also benefit local businesses such as restaurants and stores. The university encourages its students to go out into the community to explore and get involved.
“I mean, we really rely on the community and a lot of regards, and so we want to make sure in terms of economic impact that a very large percentage of our students work,” said Dr. Mike Godard, President of ISU. “We want them to work in our community.”
Godard added that he has been working to develop more partnerships with local businesses to benefit the university, the students, and the city.
