KNOX COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A routine traffic stop on a vehicle without taillights resulted in the Knox County Sheriff’s Office charging a man with possession of methamphetamine.
According to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy initiated the traffic stop on a red Ford truck on Wednesday night at the intersection of State Road 550 and Wheatland Road in Knox County for having no rear taillights.
“The driver of the truck was identified as 53-year-old Charles Hayes, who stated he did not know the lights were not working,” according to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.
During the traffic stop, an officer’s K-9 allegedly indicated there were illegal drugs inside the vehicle.
A search of the vehicle was then conducted, and the sheriff’s office said they found “a purple and green rubber container containing a light-colored chalky substance that tested positive for methamphetamine.”
Hayes was then transported to the Knox County Jail, where he was booked on the charge of possession of methamphetamine, a level 6 felony.
Hayes was then released from jail after posting a $5,000 bond, according to the sheriff’s office.
