TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A local organization is supporting breastfeeding mothers.
The United Way of the Wabash Valley has given the Terre Haute Children’s Museum a grant.
Using that grant, the museum partnered with WIC, or the supplemental nutrition program for Woman, Infants, and Children, to add a lactation station.
This station can be found on the museum’s second floor. Not only is there privacy for mothers there, but also a changing station. According to Jennifer Stewart, an expert at WIC, this is only the first step they’re taking in supporting mothers.
“For our lactating parents, our goal is to move them out of the bathrooms, to be able to feed their babies, in privacy,” said Stewart.
Their next step for WIC, a mobile lactation station at area events.
